“Canyon Cove” is part of a Sedona inspired series I have been working on. Having grown up in Arizona, I am mesmerized by the stunning color juxtaposition of the Havasupai, Sedona, and Utah canyonlands. Only there have I seen the stark orangey copper cliffs set against waterfalls and rivers of aqua blues and seafoam whites. I worked in painstaking layers to get that depth of translucence. One of my favorite ways to show the artwork is to show it inside under studio lighting, and then slowly bring it into the sunlight. It is like doing a magic trick! The way different lights illuminate the same painting makes it a magical experience. As you shift perspectives, you will begin to see the different aspects meet your eye in a whole new way.

What is Resin?

Resin is like a liquid glass. It is a two-part epoxy that once mixed, starts to harden within the hour.

I mix resin with various pigments and then work with a blowtorch and knife to paint these scenes.

Some paintings have up to 5 layers of resin, each taking 72 hours to fully cure. You can see through the layers like looking through glass or water. Once cured, it is brilliantly shiny like glass and also robustly durable like a countertop. Resin is so durable it is even used to make surfboards using similar processes as to how I create my paintings.
