“EMANATE” is a sprawling array of colors and shapes that float over and intermingle with each other, an effect achieved by five stunning layers of resin. With just an hour of work time to mix, pour, and paint, I must work very fast on each layer and then wait days between each layer where I can strategize how I want them to interact. I built this piece to be a confluence of nebulaic explosive bursts of energy, and calm sweeping ocean movement. I like my more abstract pieces to be open to interpretation and even orientation shifts, so you can pivot the painting and see it in a new way. The rich darkness in the background pushes the bursting dynamic textures in the foreground and then pulls you back again.

What is resin?

Resin is like a liquid glass, that must be mixed, colored, and spread within the space of an hour before it sets. I use heat implements like a blow torch to manipulate the layers where I want them, using hundreds of hours of experience to achieve these effects. Epoxy resin is also used in surfboard and boat crafting so it is incredibly durable as well. Every layer needs 72 hours to fully cure, but when it does it sets like glass, brilliantly glossy with unparalleled depth and durability.
