Silver Sands

The color variance amongst sands in surf is really fascinating to me. I like to work with a variance of tones and textures to approximate the look of the wonderfully varied beaches around the world that I have visited. With “Silver Sands” I used a metallic silver alcohol ink, mixed with resin in a way that it looks like sand when poured. Then I layered in soft aqua blues and foamy whites with a blow torch and impressionist techniques I have learned from a decade of painting. The finish of resin is like glass. Each layer takes 72 hours to cure and then it is extremely durable and glistens in the light. The pigments I use are the same pigments used to craft surfboards, and give the subject of my paintings, very appropriate at that! My paintings have been sold worldwide and I send a signed certificate of authenticity with each piece.
